Esentepe Beach

Esentepe Public Beach (Belediye Esentepe Beach) is located on the north-east coast of Cyprus, near the village of Esentepe, roughly 30 minutes east of Kyrenia.

The area combines natural beauty (sandy coastline, clear water, a mix of rocky bits in some sections), with public infrastructure: there are facilities maintained by the municipality including showers, changing rooms, a cafe/restaurant & bars, and places to rent umbrellas and sunbeds.

What It’s Like

Here are some of the features & vibes of Esentepe Public Beach:

Beach and Sea

  • The beach is mostly sandy with some shingle and rock‐ledges, especially in the shallow parts. Entry into the water is gentle in most spots.
  • The water tends to be clear; good for swimming and, in some parts, snorkeling.

Facilities

  • There are showers, toilets, changing rooms.
  • Beach furniture (sunbeds, umbrellas) and booths/curtained areas are available to rent.
  • There’s a restaurant / beach bar, which can provide food, drinks, often with a sea view.

Atmosphere

  • Family-friendly, fairly relaxed. Not overdeveloped like some resort beaches.
  • Good for visitors who want some comforts but still want a more peaceful, natural beach rather than big hotel beaches.

Other Things Nearby & How It Connects

  • Esentepe Village itself lies up on a hill (“windy hill” is what Esentepe means), with lovely views of the coast and surrounding mountains. Great for a stroll, local food, small shops.
  • Near‐by is the Korineum Golf & Country Club, which has its own beach club (private but open to public for fee) and additional facilities.
  • Also in the region is Alagadi / Turtle Beach, famous for sea turtles laying eggs, and a protected beach area. Not the same as Esentepe beach, but close enough to merit a side-trip.

What to Know Before Visiting

  • The beach is municipally run, so hours or access might vary seasonally. Summer will have full services; in off-season some things may be reduced.
  • If coming by car, there is parking available.
  • Bring what you need: sunscreen, towels etc., though many amenities are present. Also good to have a bit of local currency for the café/bar etc.
  • Because parts of the beach have rocky bits, water shoes might help if you plan to explore or snorkel.

Why It’s Worth Going

Esentepe Public Beach strikes a nice balance: it gives a comfortable beach experience with public facilities, while still retaining a more serene, natural feel than big tourist resorts. The setting—sand, sea, coastal hills—is beautiful, the food is decent, and it’s accessible for both locals and travellers. If you’re in Kyrenia or nearby, it’s a great option to spend a relaxing beach day without travelling too far.
